The wvm Group and the green energy provider NATURSTROM AG are establishing a joint venture called Green Estate. By combining expertise in energy and real estate, the partners are blazing a new trail to enable people to live sustainably.
The goal of the partnership is to integrate decentralized, clean energy generation into the wvm Group’s future construction projects from the very beginning—thereby making the most of the opportunities offered by a connected infrastructure for electricity, heating, and e-mobility. Green Estate serves as the operating company through which wvm and NATURSTROM jointly invest in the building energy systems at wvm properties. NATURSTROM will then handle the technical operation of the systems and bill customers for their energy consumption. “Our vision is to provide people with a sustainable supply of electricity and heat exclusively from local renewable sources,” explains NATURSTROM Executive Board Member Dr. Tim Meyer. “In wvm, we have found a partner that shares our goals.”
With the founding of Green Estate, NATURSTROM and wvm Immobilien are entering into the first collaboration of its kind. Such a far-reaching partnership serves as a model, as the decentralized nature of the energy transition is creating increasing overlap between the energy and real estate sectors. Above all, the ecological capabilities of cities and urban centers will be crucial for the future of the planet.
For each construction project, the companies develop a customized energy concept to make the best possible use of local energy generation potential and tailor it to specific needs. “Behind NATURSTROM are true enthusiasts who live and breathe climate protection, and that’s one of the reasons we enjoy working with them,” says Raphael Hüffelmann, Technical Director at the wvm Group, explaining the partnership.
Planning for the first construction projects in Cologne and Berlin has already been completed—including the residential neighborhood on Subbelrather Straße in Cologne-Ehrenfeld, for which wvm and NATURSTROM have developed an innovative, climate-friendly energy concept for sustainable living. Additional projects are in the planning stages.
