Two modern new buildings that harmoniously integrate with the existing structure and create a new public space; the retail offerings on the ground floor enhance the quality of the environment. The new structures respond to the existing “Fuhrwerkswaage” art gallery, and although their uses and number of stories differ, they incorporate the Fuhrwerkswaage as the third building in the ensemble—essentially its smaller, distinct sibling.
The history of the Sürth train station is carried forward in the two buildings through their reddish overall tone, the surrounding clinker brick facade, and the monolithic design language. Contrasting accent surfaces on the clinker brick facade, as well as the modern mailboxes clad in perforated metal, bridge the gap to the present and lend the buildings their neo-industrial charm.
The large entrance areas convey a sense of spaciousness and lead to the elevator or the stairwell, which shines thanks to its high-quality design: gray natural stone stairs, an oak handrail, and concrete seating round out the concept.
