The residential complex on Herler Straße in Cologne-Buchheim is a prime example of forward-thinking urban development and has been recognized with the “Exemplary Buildings NRW 2025” award. Based on the design by 3pass Architekten, a vibrant ensemble of six buildings with a total of 237 apartments and a five-classroom daycare center was created. A variety of apartment sizes and types—ranging from subsidized housing to condominiums—create a diverse and socially balanced offering.
The clear, compact architectural language with individual accents blends harmoniously into the surroundings and strengthens the identity of the Buchheim neighborhood. A car-free, generously designed green space with a neighborhood square fosters social interaction and community spirit and forms the heart of the complex.
Special attention was also paid to sustainability: green roofs, a biogas-powered combined heat and power plant, and an environmentally friendly mobility concept actively contribute to climate protection and biodiversity. The result is a neighborhood that combines ecological responsibility, functional diversity, and high architectural quality, creating sustainable added value for residents and the surrounding area.
